payment of land-revenue, likin, and other taxes, notes shall be accepted without objection, and any corrupt officers, who make use of chicanery to extort payment in coins, will be liable to in- -vestigation and punishment. The above regulations are clear and plain enough, and the Chamber of Commerce has undertaken to be responsible for the promotion of the note currency. After the issue of this notification, all persons should give strict ob- -servance thereto, and any offender will be liable to fines, and any repeated offence will be subject to heavier punishment. Half of any fine imposed upon any offender after the charge against him has been properly proven, will be appropriated for the pro- -motion of various reforms, and the other half given in reward to the witnesses. In pursuance of law, the Authorities know no favour, and this notification is issued for the information of the

public, who should one and all give strict observance.
